German carmaker BMW has just released a new promotional video which highlights the Concept X5 eDrive.

Designed to preview an upcoming production model, the Concept X5 eDrive has a plug-in hybrid powertrain that features a 245 hp TwinPower Turbo 4-cylinder petrol engine, a 95 hp electric motor and a high-voltage lithium-ion battery. In pure electric mode, the crossover can travel up to 30 km and achieve a top speed of 120 km/h. It averages fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of 3.8-liter / 100 km (61.8 mpg US or 74.3 mpg UK) with CO2 emissions of under 90 g/km.

The hybrid powertrain offers a choice of three driving modes: "the intelligent hybrid drive option for an optimum balance between sportiness and efficiency; pure electric and therefore emission-free driving; or Safe Battery mode to maintain the current battery charge."

According to Communications Manager Annette Connor, "You have the best of both worlds, everything that a conventional engine offers you - the reach, the power, the dynamics, the efficiency - and additionally you can drive such a concept, eDrive, as a pure electric car."
