All-new Mazda3 - Redefining the standard

Making its world debut in 2004, the Mazda3 had a uniquely stylish presence that launched Mazda’s design forward, leapfrogging its competition with a car that was without sacrifice or a corner cut.

For 2019, the Mazda3 hatchback and sedan designers have reimagined what’s possible for the compact car segment. As a new era of Mazda design and engineering set the standard across the industry, a new standard is set for the entire Mazda lineup through more sophisticated, purposeful and emotive car design.

Design that moves, even when parked

The Mazda design team is obsessed with creating the ultimate form of beauty. They believe the Mazda3’s artistic forms can only be shaped by the power and precision of human hands truly.

"It’s like ‘Art in Motion’ even at a standstill," said Julien Montousse, senior director, Mazda Design Americas. "The Mazda3 is breaking away and making a dramatic statement in the segment. It’s designed to intrigue and cause the driver to instinctively fall in love with it."

Traditionally, design has never been the highest priority in the compact car segment. As long as the car wasn’t offensively designed, then it was good enough for the segment. And although Mazda has always held true to innovative and emotive design, the all-new Mazda3 sedan and hatchback immensely amplify the commitment to design.

Class-leading features

Inside the all-new Mazda3, designers and engineers have restructured the seats and placement of controls, so the driver feels naturally positioned and perfectly balanced for a gratifying driving experience.

"When you sit behind the wheel," Montousse explained, "we wanted to convey this feeling of confidence while you drive. The entire dashboard is symmetrical around the driver. That’s not something the customer will look for but when you sit behind the wheel, you realize the entire dashboard is slightly oriented towards you."

All-new Mazda3

The all-new Mazda3 is now offering what few do in this segment - AWD. Combined with Mazda’s legendary G-Vectoring Control Plus, the Mazda3 with Mazda’s predictive i-Activ AWD conquers any road condition and performs just as the driver commands it to.

"At a time when others are moving away from sedans, we’ve boldly improved the Mazda3 to again raise the standard in the compact segment with a beautiful new design and superior driving dynamics," said Dino Bernacchi, chief marketing officer at Mazda North American Operations. "Mazda design is entering a new era, and this is a watershed moment for us to again set a new compact segment standard."
