Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA to target BMW M3

Alfa Romeo Giulia

According to a recent report, Alfa Romeo is currently working on a high-performance GTA variant of the Giulia to compete with the BMW M3.

AutoExpress says the Giulia GTA will be powered by a Maserati-sourced twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine which produces 480 to 520 hp. It will reportedly be mated to a dual-clutch transmission which sends power to the rear wheels via a limited-slip differential. This could allow the car to accelerate from 0-100 km/h in less than 4 seconds.

The GTA design will take some cues from the 156 GTA forebear and it will include an aggressive front bumper, a prominent grille, a ventilated hood and telephone-dial alloys, making it instantly recognizable as an Alfa Romeo. Perhaps most significant is the decision to fit hidden rear door handles, giving the four-door the look of a two-door.

The Alfa Romeo Giulia GTA is expected to have a starting price of £50,000.
