Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross earns Top Safety Pick rating

2019 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross earns Top Safety Pick rating

Mitsubishi has announced the 2019 Eclipse Cross was named an Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) Top Safety Pick winner when equipped with optional front crash prevention and specific headlights. The brand continues to receive recognition for its unique offering of safe, stylish and capable crossover utility vehicles as it lays the foundation for continued growth in the U.S.

The Eclipse Cross is the second Mitsubishi vehicle to have earned a 2019 IIHS Top Safety Pick award, along with the 7-passenger Outlander. The IIHS is an independent, non-profit organization that researches, performs evaluations and assesses safety ratings in crash testing of production vehicles.

To qualify for 2019 Top Safety Pick status, a vehicle must earn good ratings in the driver-side small overlap front, moderate overlap front, side, roof strength and head restraint tests, as well as an acceptable or good rating in the passenger-side small overlap front test. Vehicles must also earn an advanced or superior rating for front crash prevention and an acceptable or good headlight rating.

The Eclipse Cross received good ratings in all six crash tests. The optional front crash prevention system avoided collisions at 12 and 25 mph, earning a superior rating in IIHS evaluations.

The Eclipse Cross earned IIHS top honors in its SEL trim level, which features LED headlights, Blind Spot Warning (BSW) with Lane Change Assist (LCA) and Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA). SEL trims also offer an optional Touring Package with additional safety equipment including Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Automatic High Beams, and luxury touches such as a dual-pane power panoramic sunroof and a 710 watt Rockford Fosgate premium audio system with nine speakers.
