Long-distance range tests: going beyond the limits

In numerous independent long-distance tests the Kona Electric has been driven much further than the 482 km (300 miles) officially registered under WLTP testing. One of the first range tests headed to France for the 2018 Paris Motor Show. Five Kona Electric with two journalists each covered the distance from Frankfurt to Paris. The maximum range achieved was 506 kilometres (314 miles) with an average speed of 75 kilometres per hour (47 mph).

Furthermore, the Kona Electric achieved a maximum range of 613 km (381 miles) on a single charge in a test conducted by Germany’s largest automotive magazine AutoBild. Then testers of the French automotive online magazine Caradisiac set an even higher range record on the occasion of the Paris Motor Show. The Kona Electric travelled 734.4 km (456 miles) on a single charge and beat all other competing brands’ electric vehicles tested.

Hyundai has also achieved top results in the UK in the first WhatCar? Real Range tests for electric cars. In the motoring magazine’s evaluation, which complements its "True MPG" tests for petrol and diesel cars, the Kona Electric achieved a "real-world" figure of 416.8 km (259 miles) on a single charge - the longest driving range of any car tested. The Kona Electric equipped with a 64kWh battery pack was tested along with 13 other zero-emission cars at the Millbrook Proving Ground test track, in a mixed range of driving conditions.

Major awards in Europe for making future mobility accessible for everyone

In February of this year, Hyundai’s Kona Electric was already named a "game changer" in the UK-based annual Fleet World Honours. This, the Kona Electric’s first award, marked the beginning of a success story even ahead of its official 2018 launch. According to the jury, the car’s innovative character has the potential to take electric mobility further into the mainstream.

At the AutoExpress New Car Awards 2018 in July, Hyundai won several honours, including the "Affordable Electric Car of the Year" title. The Kona Electric fought off competition from the Nissan Leaf and Volkswagen e-Golf, and was commended by the judges for its long range on a single charge and its affordable price.

Also at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, one of the world's largest automotive events, a jury of experts formed by the French online technology magazine 01net.com acclaimed the Kona Electric the "Electric Car of the Year," highlighting the vehicle’s best cost-benefit ratio.

Hyundai’s first fully-electric subcompact SUV was also named "Best Eco Car" by the UK’s Parkers New Car Awards 2019 for its excellent range, its outstanding day-to-day usability, appealing design, and its affordability - allowing customers to genuinely consider an electric vehicle as their next family car. In yet another eco/green achievement, at the Escape6 Prague Car Festival in the Czech Republic, the Kona Electric was awarded "Green Car of the Year".

Kona Electric: a car of no compromise

The Kona Electric is a car of no compromise, combining Hyundai’s progressive SUV style and a zero-emission electric powertrain. The vehicle is the first fully-electric subcompact SUV on the European market, offering an outstanding range - according to the United Nations-backed WLTP (Worldwide harmonised Light vehicles Test Procedure) - of up to 482 km. The Kona Electric carries the distinctive design and do-it-all attitude of the regular Kona. Thanks to its roominess, the Kona Electric is a truly versatile car, suitable for everyday use.
