6 great things about the 2019 Hyundai SantaFe

The 2019 Hyundai SantaFe is a powerful, elegant SUV with best-in-class safety features and exceptional roominess.

In Europe, Hyundai has sold more than 400,000 units of the SantaFe over the past 17 years - and the fourth-generation iteration will continue to impress customers who are looking for a car that combines premium design, luxurious space and advanced technology.

Representing the cornerstone of the longstanding SUV heritage that Hyundai has established, here are six things that make the all-new Hyundai SantaFe great.

A bold new look

The exterior design of the 2019 Hyundai SantaFe is characterised by a powerful wide stance and an athletic, bold look, with refined lines that reinforce the car’s status at the top of Hyundai’s SUV line-up. The front introduces Hyundai’s signature Cascading Grille, which is complemented by the Composite Light - a design comprising LED Daytime Running Lights positioned on top of the LED headlights.

The dynamic character of the side is enhanced by a sleek roof line and the bold side character line running from the headlights to the taillights to form a fluid design. The rear creates a confident and stable stance with unique tail lights and a striking bumper design.

More space, greater comfort

The SantaFe’s stunning relationship between design and functionality combines premium quality with a horizontal and roomy layout. It also offers enhanced visibility, with a 41 percent larger rear quarter glass and higher second- and third-row openness.

Drivers and front passengers will enjoy the support of the electric extendable seat cushions offering 10 different positions. Passengers in the second- and third-row will experience increased comfort, with the former getting a 38 mm increase in legroom and the latter 22 mm more headroom - having accessed the third row with one-touch walk-in at the push of a button.

A smoother, quieter ride

The all-new SantaFe’s suspension delivers a smoother ride by reducing the impact and vibration when driving on rougher road surfaces. The suspension has been stiffened and placed vertically to give a longer travel length for more ride comfort.

Its tuned engine lineup ensures softer sound, and its external vertical shock absorbers optimise responsiveness and stability while improving noise, vibration and harshness levels during driving. Road noise is reduced by reinforced floor panels and the inclusion of more materials in the carpet.

State-of-the-art safety

The Hyundai SantaFe offers a number of industry-first safety features, including the innovative Rear Occupant Alert - an ultrasonic sensor that monitors the rear seats to detect the movements of children or pets and alerts the driver when leaving the car. The Safety Exit Assist prevents accidents by using radar to detect when vehicles approach from behind and temporarily locking the doors before being opened, so that passengers will exit the car safely.

Using front radar and camera sensors, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with pedestrian detection alerts drivers to emergency situations, braking autonomously if required. Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist scans a 180-degree area behind the vehicle, warning the driver and applying the brakes automatically to avoid collisions when vehicles approach from the side or when reversing out of narrow areas with low visibility.

Enhanced four-wheel drive

The 2019 SantaFe features an advanced four-wheel drive system with enhanced torque application depending on wheel grip and the speed of vehicle, called HTRAC. It supports drivers in all kinds of driving situations, whether on snow, slippery roads or in regular road conditions, and enhances stability in cornering.

HTRAC actively adjusts the driving power distribution to all 4 wheels to achieve optimal balance on every kind of road conditions. Unlike the mechanical four-wheel-drive systems already introduced by countless other brands, HTRAC variably controls the braking and power to the wheels. In slippery conditions, the system aids the driver by distributing power to all four wheels automatically.

Class-leading head-up display

For the first time in a Hyundai, the SantaFe features a full head-up display (HUD) that projects relevant driving information onto the windshield and enables the driver’s attention to remain on the road ahead. With an image size of eight inches at two metre distance and class-leading luminance of more than 10,000 candela per square metre, it guarantees best visibility in all light conditions.

The HUD can be adjusted in angle and height to ensure optimum visibility for individual needs. It supports driving safety by displaying information such as speed, navigation commands and fuel level, as well as alerts from active safety and driving assistance features.
