Top 3 ways cars have improved over the years

I always get reflective when we reach the end of the year. So, I started thinking about how cars have changed over the years. How, and where, have they improved? I got my thinking cap on and came up with the top ways cars have improved over course of time:

Car Tech

Car Tech

Coming in hot on this list is car tech. Yes, it’s no surprise that, as technology has advanced, car tech has improved. It’s a natural progression and the improvements are seen each year. In fact, I wrote a piece on some of the best innovations this year earlier in the month. In that piece, I spoke about some amazing and cool things. Things that, ten years ago, seemed like mere dreams. But, now it’s possible to have some awesome technology in your car.

The best part is, tech has improved cars on many levels. Sure, you get some flashy stuff that’s purely for show, but, a lot is practical. Stuff like automatic braking systems to help prevent collisions. That’s a tech development that can, literally, save lives. There are little things that we now take for granted too, like a satnav. When it first came out, satnav was seen as a must-have thing, an amazing piece of tech. Now, it’s part and parcel of almost every new car out there. It helps us get from A to B, without getting lost and ending up at C. Improvements in car tech have made driving a far better experience for everyone. And, it looks like things are going to get even better from here on in.

Tyres

Tyres

Car tyres have made huge strides over the years! Think about when cars were first reaching the public market. There used to be very little choice when it came to tyres. You got what you were given, essentially. Each car would have one, maybe two, tyre options to pick from. Nowadays, there're such a plethora of tyres to choose for your car. You can get thicker tyres, ones with more/less grip than standard ones. There are tyres to improve your car’s performance and top speed. There are even tyres, especially for the winter! People have much more choice nowadays and it’s definitely improved the auto industry. Having a wide range of tyres means that cars can be customised to however you want. Plus, they’ve gotten better and more durable too, which makes driving a lot safer.

Then, you have other tyre related things that have improved over the years too. You used to have to go to a garage if you wanted your tyres changed by a professional. Either that or you’d have to do it yourself. Nowadays, there’re mobile tyre fitting services that come straight to your door. It makes life a lot easier for car owners. It means you can change your tyres and upgrade them whenever you feel like it.

Design

Design

There are some of you that may disagree with this, but I think car design has improved as the years go by. Take a look at some older versions of the cars on the market today. I’m talking about your VW Polos and Ford Fiestas. Your Vauxhall Corsas and your Renault Clios. All of these are common everyday cars that you see on the roads all the time. When you compare their designs now to a decade ago, it’s staggering. The older cars look so outdated and poorly designed. Everything is much smoother, sleeker and, well, cool! Ford Fiestas used to be horrible looking things. You still see some around today and they’re not pleasing to the eye. Nowadays, Fiestas look incredible. Sometimes, I get mini Aston Martin vibes from them. The same can be said for the other cars I’ve mentioned, and a whole lot more too. Over the years, car design has got better and better.

As a car lover, it’s made a big difference to me. There’s nothing I enjoy more than seeing a new car released on the market. I’m intrigued by how it will look, what will they do with the design this time? I nearly had a heart attack when BMW revealed the i8; that thing looked like a car from the future! Improved design makes things more exciting for car lovers and car buyers.

And there you have it, my take on the top three ways cars have improved over the years. I hope you enjoyed and I’m sure some of you will relate to what’s been written here. There are, of course, many more improvements that we’ve seen in the auto industry. But, in my eyes, these are the best ones!
