The highlight of the showroom opening in Vietnam was the unveiling of the Rolls-Royce Phantom Oriental Sun, a special Phantom Extended Wheelbase Series II exclusively designed for Vietnam to commemorate the start of sales. This one-off vehicle showcases traditional Vietnamese motifs brought to life through the best of British craftsmanship.
At the centre of the design is the Oriental Sun motif penned by Vietnamese artist Noah Bui. Choosing gold for its nuances of wealth and power, Bui depicts the sun, a symbol of power and wisdom, in a bold, stylised manner, with 12 interlocking rays of light radiating from the centre to represent the 12 signs of the zodiac. The motif is placed on both C pillars, standing in contrast to the Madeira Red exterior body and complementing the golden double coachline. In the interior, it graces the headrests of the Fawn Brown interior seats.
The Phantom is a flagship car for captains of industry for whom time is a precious commodity, and the Oriental Sun has also been incorporated into a specially commissioned clock in the instrument panel.
With drinks cabinets, a wine cooler, picnic tables and a theatre feature for watching television or films, the luxurious rear compartment of this extended wheelbase model is configured in such a way as to provide an optimum environment for either business or entertaining. Alternatively, passengers can simply relax under the tranquil glow of the starlight headliner.
The concept of this exclusive model, "Connect to Success" is delicately inlayed alongside the Spirit of Ecstasy in the Mahogany wood paneling above the glove compartment. Tread plates engraved with "Oriental Sun. One of One" add the finishing touch.
