Formula One end of season punts

Formula One

If you’re the kind of person who enjoys a little flutter now and again on our favourite sport – then the end of the Formula One season often throws up a few anomalous betting opportunities.

This is particularly the case when the drivers’ championship has already been sewn up as it has by Sebastian Vettel already this year. This gives the leading teams and their drivers a chance to experiment a little, whilst those trailing behind want to do all they can to close the gap and to make the whole season look a bit more respectable.

But first, it’s worth keeping a close eye on the U.S. Grand Prix at Austin, Texas from 15-17 November before deciding where to place your cash on the and the Brazilian Grand Prix at Interlagos from 22-24 November.

One interesting wager could be on the fastest lap – with Jenson Button offering a very interesting best price of 33-1 with Betfair.

Austin will provide a huge clue as to which teams are really playing to win – and which have half an eye on next season and are using the race as an experimental basis. In Formula One racing, nothing can replicate the real thing – so if a team has nothing much to race for beyond pride – it’s an almost unique opportunity to lay the foundations for future success.

Of particular interest will be the performance of British driver Lewis Hamilton who, with Mercedes, has not enjoyed the most successful of seasons. Hamilton and Mercedes have been firmly put in their place by the Vettel-Red Bull combination – with Fernando Alonso at Ferrari and Kimi Raikkonen with Lotus in second and third place respectively.

This is something Mercedes are desperate to rectify and Hamilton is currently around a best-priced 16-1 with Betfair – though the shrewder bet may be on Brazil having seen what happens in Texas.
