Lotus recalls 451 2007-2008 Elise and Exige sports cars

2008 Lotus Elise SC

Lotus is recalling 451 units of the 2007-2008 Elise and Exige in the United States due to an oil leak problem. The affected vehicles were manufactured from December 1, 2006 through October 31, 2007.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the oil cooler line on these models may become detached from its fitting. A detached oil line could spray oil on a tire, increasing the risk of a crash, or it could spray oil throughout the engine compartment increasing the risk of a fire.

The safety recall is expected to begin on March 4 and dealers will replace the oil cooler hose fittings and the entire lateral oil cooler hose, free of charge. For further information, owners can call Lotus at 1-800-245-6887 or NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.
