McLaren has just confirmed the 12C GT Can-Am Edition will go into limited production. Specifically, production will be limited to 30 units and starts in March 2013 at McLaren’s HQ in Woking, Surrey.

According to the British carmaker, the track-only racing version of the MP4-12C is powered by an unrestricted version of the 3.8-liter twin-turbo V8 engine which develops 630 hp. That’s more than the 493 hp GT3 race car and the 616 hp road car, making it to become the most powerful 12C produced to date.

"The 12C Can-Am Edition concept shown at Pebble Beach earlier this year was purely that, a one-off design study," said Andrew Kirkaldy, Managing Director of McLaren GT. "However, the reaction and response following the unveil was remarkable. It is a real testament to the performance and results of the McLaren GT customer teams this year, still only in the debut competitive season, that there is such a strong demand for this type of track-day special."
