Mercedes-Benz is recalling 499 units of the 2012 E-Class in the United States due to a potential fault with the curtain airbag. The affected vehicles include all E350 and E550 coupes which were manufactured from April 2 through April 29, 2012.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, faulty stitching of the passenger-side curtain airbag on the passenger side may cause it to not deploy as intended in the affected vehicles. This improper stitching could cause the bag to deflate more quickly than intended in the case of a crash, increasing the risk of injury to vehicle occupants.

Owners will be contacted by the German carmaker next month and dealers will replace the faulty air bag free of charge. For further information, owners can contact NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 or Mercedes-Benz at 1-800-367-6372.
