The Mercedes-Benz E400 BlueTEC Hybrid has been launched in the United States for a starting price of $55,800, including a $905 destination charge.

Revealed at the Detroit Auto Show earlier this year, the most fuel efficient version of the E-Class is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 gasoline engine with 302 hp and 370 Nm of torque, along with a 27 hp electric motor . This allows the car to accelerate from 0-96 km/h in 6.7 seconds and hit a top speed of 209 km/h. In terms of efficacy, the model returns 24 mpg in the city, 31 mpg on the highway and 27 mpg in the combined cycle.

As a comparison, the E400 Hybrid is cheaper than its two main competitors, the BMW ActiveHybrid 5 ($61,845) and the Lexus GS 450h ($58,950), but it’s more expensive than the Infiniti M35h ($54,200).
