Advanced protection and convenience
The Niro’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) have been designed to protect occupants, both when driving on the open road and during parking manoeuvres. Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) helps to prevent collisions with rear-side vehicles by automatically braking the Niro if a potential collision with another vehicle in the blind spot is detected.
For those reversing out of a
perpendicular parking bay, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist
(RCCA) provides a warning if another vehicle is approaching from either
side. If no action by the driver is taken and a collision is imminent,
the vehicle’s brakes are applied.
To relieve parking stress, the
2023 Niro features Kia’s Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) system that
enables the vehicle to park itself when the driver is out of the
vehicle. By using ultrasonic sensors to avoid collisions with other
objects, RSPA automatically moves into the parking space, with automatic
control of accelerator, brakes and gearshift. The system will also
automatically brake the vehicle if an object is detected in the
vehicle’s path.
Once safely parked, Safe Exit Assist (SEA) provides a warning if a vehicle is approaching from the rear-side when getting out of the vehicle, with the electronic child lock preventing rear-seat passengers from opening the rear door.
Owners of the Niro EV additionally benefit from the second-generation of Kia’s Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA 2) and Highway Driving Assist (HDA 2) systems. FCA 2 constantly monitors the movement of nearby road users - including cars, cyclists, and pedestrians - to help drivers avoid potential collisions, and it also incorporates Junction Turning and Junction Crossing functions to maximise safety when navigating junctions. When travelling on multi-lane highways, HDA 2 maintains a set distance and speed from the vehicle ahead, keeping the vehicle in its lane and assisting with lane changes.
Multiple crystal-clear display screens
The Niro benefits from a highly intuitive interior layout where the driver and front seat passenger can view and access all of the vehicle’s key controls with ease. Two 10.25-inch screens create a stunning dual display seamlessly integrated into the dashboard.
Located directly ahead of the driver lies the main instrument cluster, which communicates all key driving information, such as speed, real-time energy flow and obstacle detection in pin-sharp clarity. This display merges into the infotainment screen located in the centre of the dashboard. A series of intuitive icons enable front-seat occupants to access audio, navigation and vehicle settings easily and with minimal distraction.
An advanced Head-Up Display (HUD) unit
projects useful information directly onto the windscreen ahead of the
driver. The 10-inch projection helps to minimise the driver’s eye
movement while driving, enhancing both safety and convenience.
When driving, the Niro’s front view camera and inbuilt navigation system work in unison to display via the HUD the current speed limit, while the Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA) system issues a visual warning if the driver exceeds the speed limit. The HUD system also displays the status of other key ADAS systems, including Smart Cruise Control (SCC), Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) and Blind-Spot Collision Warning (BCW).
Fully connected via Kia Connect
The Niro comes equipped with Kia Connect, a telematics system that enhances connectivity and control. The Kia Connect smartphone app allows users to interact with their vehicle remotely. Drivers can sync calendars, plan journeys with online navigation and access key onboard features including live traffic alerts, local charging station information and real-time weather forecasts.
A Last Mile Navigation feature helps customers navigate to their destination on foot once their Niro is parked using Google Maps and augmented reality (AR) technology, while Valet Mode enables customers to monitor their vehicle remotely when it’s being driven by another user, providing added peace of mind.
For those who opt for the Niro EV, the
Kia Connect app also allows users to pre-heat the cabin, while a remote
charging feature enables users to schedule charging remotely. A User
Profile Transfer feature ensures different users can set their favourite
vehicle settings when away from the vehicle, helping to save time on
arrival. Once a journey is underway, multiple occupants can stay
connected to the outside world with Bluetooth multi-connection.
Charging made easy
As
more people make the switch to electrified mobility, Kia has recognised
the importance of ensuring its customers can access an extensive and
cost-effective charging network. Through Kia Charge, all-new Niro PHEV
and Niro EV owners have access to over 350,000 charging stations across
Europe, with a selection of usage plans designed to meet different
requirements.
The ‘Easy’ tariff permits access to most charging
stations without a subscription, with energy consumption costs set by
the supplier - ideal for occasional users. The ‘Plus’ package is
designed for those using public charging stations on a more regular
basis, with a discounted rate compared to the ‘Easy’ tariff. The
‘Advanced’ package offers a fixed price for both AC and DC charging,
meaning users can avoid fluctuations in energy prices.
Kia’s
partnership with Ionity also means that Niro users have access to over
400 charging stations. All energy obtained from an Ionity charger comes
from 100% renewable sources from certified suppliers. To ensure 100%
green energy throughout the rest of its charging network, Kia will
purchase the equivalent amount of renewable energy certificates that is
equal to the electricity consumption of Kia customers.
