Luxury car brands deserve some more attention

When you think of luxury cars, I bet the same old manufacturers come to mind. The brands whose posters you had plastered to your bedroom wall as a kid. The cars that everyone on the rich list has on their own bucket list. Those names don't come cheap. They target a very particular market, and they're not readily available. That's a part of their appeal, I guess. But the luxury car market isn't as monopolized as you might think it is. If you're in a position to be on the lookout for a luxury car of your own, you have more options than ever.

Rather than paying for name value alone, why not take a look at some of these less familiar brands? They's well established in their own right, but often get overlooked for the big boys. Their products, though, are well worth your consideration.

Acura

Acura MDX

The Japanese carmaker may not be the first name that comes to mind when you think of luxury cars, but they're certainly making a splash. The brand is owned by the instantly more recognizable Honda. But did you know that, last year alone, Acura accounted for 8.7% of luxury car sales in the United States? By far their most popular releases are their crossover SUVs, which accounts for nearly two-thirds of their sales. The sudden rise in popularity could well be attributed to their appearance in the Avengers movie. Either way, it's definitely worth your attention as an alternative luxury car maker. Infiniti

Infiniti QX60

As I'm sure you're well aware by now, most luxury car brands are owned by more conventional manufacturers. For some reason, they like to keep their releases separate from their economy cars. Infiniti is one such outing from Nissan, claiming over 6% of the market share in America last year. And they're not just for boy racers, either. Infiniti release cars that closely resemble other Nissan vehicles, but with obviously greater specs. Hey, if it isn't broke, why fix it? You'll get everything you have come to expect from Nissan. But on top of that, there is the benefits of greater suspension, interiors and technology.

Lincoln

Lincoln MKZ

Lincoln is the luxury brand by economy car giants Ford. Perhaps the name most synonymous with affordable and reliable driving, Lincoln looks to buck that trend. While there's certainly nothing wrong with Ford's reputation, they clearly want to enhance it further. Ford do an admirable job of retaining a very respectable market share in an industry dominated by overseas imports. The premise behind the Lincoln brand is clear to see - bigger is better. But make no mistake, it's not just the size that counts. Lincoln makes sure that their luxury cars hit all the right notes, and are a great alternative to the top dogs.

Next time you think about luxury cars, keep these brands in mind. It's not all about Mercedes-Benz, Audi and BMW. There are plenty of other options out there that are definitely worthy of your money.
