Paris 2012: Mclaren P1

Full details of the McLaren P1 have just revealed at the Paris Motor Show today.

The British carmaker claims that the F1 successor draws inspiration from its racing division and its target is to produce "the world’s best driving car both on the road and on the track".

No infomation about the engine, but the P1 is designed to challenge the new Porsche 918 Spyder and the Ferrari Enzo successor. The supercar generates 600 kg of downforce at 150 mph which is enough to rival the MP4-12C GT3 race car.

The body is made from carbon fiber panels that are “extraordinarily thin” and are molded in large sections. The wing adjust automatically to boost downforce and optimise aerodynamics. It can extend rearwards by up to 300 mm on a racetrack and by up to 120 mm on the road.

In addition, the P1 supercar also features two flaps mounted under the body ahead of the front wheels. These are also actively controlled and change angle automatically to optimise performance, increasing both speed and driver confidence. This is probably inspired by the Pagani Huayra.

Prices are yet to be announced but we expect the McLaren P1 to start at around £700,000. First deliveries will begin late next year on McLaren’s 50th anniversary.
