2013 Volvo S60 and XC60 recalled

2013-Volvo-S60

Volvo Cars of North America has recently announced a recall for the 2013 S60 and XC60 due to an airbag defect.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, only nine units will be affected by this recall. The NHTSA says that a manufacturing defect in the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) control module that may lead to an inadvertent deployment of the seat belt pretensioner and/or the inflatable side curtain airbag.

Deployment of the seat belt pretensioner and/or side curtain airbag could result in driver distraction and reduced visibility, both of which increase crash risk.

Volvo says that none of the affected units have been sold in the United States yet and they have been quarantined on dealer lots, expecting to be repaired. The SRS control unit will be completely replaced in order for the models to be sold to customers.

Owners of 2013 Volvo S60 or XC60 models with any questions or concerns may contact Volvo Cars of North America at 1-800-458-1552 or the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236 (campaign ID 12V439000).

2013 Volvo XC70 and S80 recalled

2013-Volvo-XC70

Volvo is recalling 300 2013 XC70s and S80s due to a malfunctioning tire pressure monitoring system, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

"A software error within the Central Electronic Module will result in the 'TPMS Service Required' message appearing after approximately 15 minutes of accumulated driving over 25 mph," said NHTSA in its recalls summary of the problem. "The error will prevent the tire pressure monitoring system from warning the driver that a tire needs air. A malfunctioning tire pressure monitoring system cannot warn a driver that a tire is under-inflated. Under-inflated tires can result in tire overloading and overheating, which could lead to a blowout and possible crash."

Volvo hasn’t announced a date for the recall yet, but owners can contact Volvo customer service at (800) 458-1552 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236. Dealers will reprogram the tire pressure monitoring system free of charge.
